About these Lists

These lists began in about 2010 to keep straight the tracks on the various Sandy Denny releases that had appeared at that time. They were based on what I owned, as well as the material in Clinton Heylin's book No More Sad Refrains.

By this time, expanded versions of Sandy's solo albums and those with Fairport Convention had been released, and several box sets had appeared. During the work on the lists the Sandy Denny 19-CD box box appeared with many new mixes, and it became even more important to sort the different performances, takes, and mixes of the songs.

The main purpose of the lists was to distinguish the many different versions of each song that Sandy was known to have contributed to. This includes both studio and live recordings, and in particular the different mix variations of certain studio recordings. Although some variations may have been missed, the goal was to be as complete as possible in identifying alternate mixes.

The two lists included here are:

Sandy Denny Discography

The release list is divided into 7 sections:

  • Early recordings (official full-length releases)
  • Fairport Convention and related (official full-length releases)
  • Solo releases (official full-length releases)
  • Various artists, compilation, and retrospective releases
  • Sandy as guest artist on others' releases
  • Official singles and EPs
  • Bootleg releases (full-length and singles)
  • Tapes and private CD-Rs (mine only)

The section covering my tapes and trader CD-Rs is of less general use, since it is specific to my own stuff, but perhaps there is information there that is useful also.

For each release, I give track listings, my own track timings (for the releases that I have), and venue/date for each track. The timings are all personal timings, not taken from labels or CD index times. For the studio tracks, information comes from No More Sad Refrains, release liner notes, and a few miscellaneous sources. A unique index number is given for each version of a particular song. The numbers were originally assigned in chrnological order of performance, but later numbers are out of order. The ordering of the numbers is not important; their purpose is to uniquely identify each version of a song.

    Sandy Denny Track List

The track list organizes the material from the first list by track, with chronological ordering for different versions of each track. For studio listings, studio and date are often uncertain. Most of this information comes from Clinton Heylin's book.

The index numbers used in the Discography to identify each version of a song also appear here. Again, track timings are my own, and are given only for material that I have. All timings in both lists are figured from first note to last note.
